Frida's Menagerie
Frida's Menagerie is a gallery wrapped canvas 36" x 36, marble dust plaster over canvas. It is painted over silver leaf as well. Her 3D headdress is entirely made from different fabrics and clay flowers and leaves and a coconut hut nest that houses three blue spotted eggs. The entire headpiece was then gilded in gold leaf. The two hummingbirds carry pieces of husk in their beaks and her necklace is an exact replica of one of Frida Kahlo's own necklace on display at her Museum in Mexico. It differs in one detail, I painted Diego's image in her necklace.
Frida's Menagerie was on display at Univision's morning show Despierta Orlando for one week during my year long run as the Resident Artist for our local Orlando morning show. I had the honor to exhibit several of my pieces over the year and was interviewed as a return guest.
After her week on the local morning show, she went on display at a local prestigious gallery on Park Ave in Winter Park, where I was invited to display several of my pieces. She sold the very same day.
