Marilyn Monroe Commission
This piece was the third piece commissioned by one of my collectors, who is now my best collector with five original pieces. It's been such a joy to work with her, in creating these wonderful portraits for her home. I'm smiling as I write this and as I do every time I see the pictures. She wanted a portrait of Marilyn in my style, with the 3D elements and with the deep blue and gold color palette. I did my research on Marilyn, I as always do for portraits and I found a picture of her posing with a bird in her hand that I had never seen before. It was then that I decided to use that picture as a reference picture and I designed the floral headpiece to go with it.
Every flower and leaf are made of paper, heat sculpted and painted before sewing them into the canvas. I added a pavé diamond egg in the nest. The bird is sculpted from watercolor paper. The backdrop of her headdress is adorned in Swarovski crystals and pearls, embedded into the texture.
